The HIV/AIDS pandemic in Lesotho has reached such critical proportions that it affects every person in every aspect of their life. It impacts on all development interventions. >>

The objectives of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftainship/Lekala la Puso ea Libaka le Borena are:

1. to introduce democratic local government;
2. to deepen and widen access to the structures of government through creating democratic control over the development planning process and making public institutions more accountable to the electorate;
3. more decision making, resource allocation, local level planning, development and public services physically closer to the people;
4. equitable distribution of human, institutional, infrastructural and financial resources across the country;
5. promotion of sound and effective partnerships between local authorities, the private sector, NGOs, CBOs and to create a conducive environment for economic development.

The head office of the Ministry is in Moposo House, Kingsway, Maseru. The Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship has an office within the Ministry. The Principal Secretary of the Ministry is 'M'e 'Mapitso Panyane.

The are six departments within the Ministry:
